Randy trumbower, PT, PhD

Principal Investigator

Randy is the Director of the INSPIRE Laboratory. He has an MS in Physical Therapy from Duke University, MS and PhD degrees in Biomedical Engineering from University of Connecticut, and postdoc training with Drs. Rymer and Perreault at RIC/Northwestern University. Randy is an Assistant Professor at Harvard Medical School and an Adj Associate Professor at MGH-Institute for Health Professions.

chris Tuthill, PhD

Lead Engineer

Chris is a postdoctoral fellow within the INSPIRE Lab at Harvard Medical School and Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital. He completed his Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology/Emory University in 2019. Dr. Tuthill is interested in developing technologies to improve the treatment and measurement of neurological injuries.

Angela Link, PT, DPT, NCS

Physical Therapist

Angela is a Physical Therapist who works jointly treating patients with SCI at the Spaulding Charlestown acute rehabilitation setting and participants at Inspire Lab. Angela has her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Drexel University and is a board certified specialist in neurology upon completing a residency program with Brooks Rehabilitation. She is most passionate about the translation of research findings into the clinical setting to optimize both the reach and the quality of care to those with spinal cord injuries.

Chloe Slocum, MD, MPH

Physician Scientist

Chloe Slocum, MD, MPH is a Harvard-trained physical medicine and rehabilitation physician and spinal cord injury medicine specialist. She completed her clinical training at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital and the Veterans Administration Health System in Boston, Massachusetts. She is a national expert in health policy and is passionate about achieving the best long-term outcomes for individuals with spinal cord injury and ensuring access to high-quality primary and specialty care for men and women after spinal cord injury.

Julia Wall, Pt, PhD

Research Physical Therapist

Julia is a Research Physical Therapist at the INSPIRE lab at Spaulding Hospital Cambridge. Julia completed her PhD in Physiotherapy at Trinity College Dublin. She is passionate about falls prevention and neurorehabilitation approaches for individuals with spinal cord injury.

Lynn McCane, PhD

Research Fellow

Lynn is a Research Fellow within the INSPIRE Lab at Harvard Medical School and Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital. She completed her Ph.D. in the Interdisciplinary Neuroscience Program at The University of Rhode Island in December of 2022. Lynn uses noninvasive electrophysiology to study the effect of neuromodulators on motor learning mechanisms. 

Noah Piazza, BS

Clinical Research Coordinator

Noah is a clinical research coordinator at the INSPIRE Lab. He graduated from Umass Boston with a BS in Exercise Kinesiology and Health Sciences, while also gathering a strong background in psychology. His research interests include behavior change and neurorehabilitation.

Angie Hibberd, OT, OTD

Occupational Therapist

Angie is a Research Occupational Therapist at the INSPIRE Lab and per diem Occupational Therapist at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital. She received her Post-Professional Doctorate in Occupational Therapy from Boston University. Her special interests include neuro-rehabilitation, trauma informed care, and pediatrics. 

Sachin Patel, BA

Research Assistant

Sachin is a research assistant at the Inspire Lab. He graduated from Middlebury College in 2024 with a B.A. in Neuroscience. Hoping to eventually attend medical school, his research interests include investigating mechanisms for spinal cord injury recovery and new rehabilitation technology.

Naama Nijk

Research Assistant

Naama is a research assistant at the INSPIRE Lab at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital. She completed her MD degree at the Technion Institute of Technology. Her research interests focus on neuroplasticity mechanisms and pain management. Naama views rehabilitation as a journey of dedication and creativity. By crafting solutions as unique as individuals, rehabilitation empowers people to thrive on their own terms.

Research Coordinator

Katie Schramm, PT, DPT, NCS

Physical Therapist

Katie is a Clinical Specialist Physical Therapist who works jointly treating patients at the Spaulding Charlestown Outpatient Department and as an assessor in the research at the Inspire Lab in Cambridge. Katie has her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from MGH Institute of Health Professions and is a board-certified specialist in neurology. She specializes in individuals with spinal cord injury, brain injury, vestibular dysfunction, and gait and balance impairments. Katie is actively involved in both MGH IHP and Boston University’s DPT programs.

Rachel Brody, PT, DPT

Physical Therapist

Rachel is a physical therapist working with participants both as a gait trainer and assessor for various research projects in the lab. She graduated from MGH Institute of Health Professions with her Doctor of Physical Therapy and from the University of Connecticut with her Bachelor’s of Science. She enjoys working in a variety of settings with patients with neurological conditions. 

Stella Barth, BA

Medical Student

Stella is a medical student at the University of Massachusetts School of Medicine in the Population-based Urban and Rural Community Health (PURCH) track. She received her BA degree in Neurobiology from Harvard College and has experience as a secondary school science educator. Her clinical research interests include neurorehabilitation and neuroplasticity.

Gail Monaghan, PT, SCD, AAOMPT, OCS

Physical Therapist

Gail, trained at Boston University, is an advanced clinical specialist at Spaulding Cambridge Outpatient Center specializing in the physical therapy treatment of orthopedic patients. At Inspire she assists in clinical data collection of participants. She believes in supporting research in the network.
