Neuromechanics of Walking

How do people coordinate interlimb muscles to walk overground? Are there treatments for SCI that target neural mechanisms of interlimb coordination?

We are conducting several studies to address these questions:

1. Effects of augmented reality feedback on improving interlimb coordination in persons with SCI.

2. Effects of spinal stimulation on improving interlimb coordination after SCI.

If you have sustained a spinal cord injury more than 6 months ago, you may be eligible to participate in one of our studies.

Participation in these ongoing studies may include:

  • Screening visits (up to 3 visits, 1-4 hours).

    • Free evaluation by a licensed physical therapist,

    • Free assessment of leg function and walking ability

  • Study Intervention (up to 15 visits, 2-3 hours each).

  • Follow-up visits (up to 6 visits, 2-5 hours each).

You also may be asked to provide blood and saliva samples during your visits.

You will be compensated for each visit and in some cases for travel and lodging.
